Spain rejects Paya case

The judge of the National Court, Spanish main criminal court, Eloy Velasco, decided to reject the admission of this complaint with the lack of competence of the Spanish Justice. The magistrate thus endorsed the opinion of the prosecutor Teresa Sandoval, who had recommended not to admit the complaint filed by the wife and daughter of opposition leader, Ofelia Acevedo and Rosa Maria Paya against Cuban security officials.
Dissident Paya and Harold Cepero died July 22, 2012 when the vehicle they were traveling in and led the young Spanish conservative politician Angel Carromero crashed into a tree. Cuba Carromero was sentenced to four years in prison for involuntary manslaughter before being repatriated to Spain where he is serving his sentence in semi-liberty.
